Here's the last upload of the old year, and a very special one it is! This 7CD box set has been OOP for many years. It was a limited edition of 10'000 and contains the Mercury 1940s output of musicians like Albert Ammons (including a great father & son date with Gene Ammons on tenor), Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Jay McShann, Roy Byrd (Professor Longhair), Helen Humes, Buddy Rich's Big Band, Cootie Williams (including some Willis "Gator" Jackson), and others. There are six discs full of music, plus a seventh with alternates and a very rare, previously unreleased date by Mary Lou Williams (two tunes).
As usual, this comes in MP3 @ 320 kbs - don't ask for FLAC, I couldn't handle it that way. The links will be in the comments, as usual.
Now all that remains is to wish you and your beloved ones a happy new year!
And if you enjoy my blog and the music I share, why don't you now and then say so!
Here's the setlist, all other info, including full line-ups and recording locations/dates, is in the tags (I hope I didn't make too many typos, took me hours to get it done!)

r.i.p. Oscar Peterson - Hannover 1972 with Ben Webster
I've never been a huge fan, but I grew to like some of Oscar Peterson's music. Of course as a sideman he's on so many great albums, there's no way denying that many musicians have liked playing with him! Here's a radio broadcast in fairly good sound with one of those giants who often relied upon Peterson's service, the Frog, the big Ben Webster, from the early 1970s.

Oscar Peterson and Ben Webster
Hannover (Germany), Funkhaus des NDR
December 14, 1972
Ben Webster - tenor sax
Oscar Peterson - piano
Niels-Henning Örsted-Pedersen - bass
Tony Inzalaco - drums

2. Sunday (7:17)
3. I Got It Bad And That Ain't Good (7:44)
4. Perdido (8:06)
5. Come Sunday (7:41)
6. For All We Know (10:40)
7. Cottontail (6:54)
TT: 56:35
Sound: A-
Source: Radio
No lineage info
Additional lineage: FLAC > WAV > Cool Edit Pro > FLAC (8,asb,verify)
Edits: fixed mars (most had gaps and were a bit too early)

I took this off dime, but as I had to fix it I thought I'd not only re-encode the WAV files to FLAC again for my own use, but also do an MP3 @ 320 kbps version and post it here, as a little tribute to Oscar Peterson.

Sonny Simmons - ubu's x-mas special
So then, I promised something special for x-mas - two shows by the great Sonny Simmons!
I uploaded them on dime, too (I got them from there, edited them for my own pleasure but put up my edited versions again, too). Now they're here in MP3 @ 320 (I hope that suits everyone, FLAC would just be too much work with my relatively slow connection).
More to come soon, so don't miss to visit again in a few days!

Lester Young Live (11-13/16) - 1952-1956 with Horace Silver, Hank Jones, Ella Fitzgerald and many others (For Europeans Only #9)
I apologize for the absence of further Prez posts... all the music has been uploaded for a while, but I've been thinking with what to continue after it was done and had no great ideas (now I have). Also as so often "real life" interfered with stuff demading lots of attention and time, and then last weekend some kind of stomach flu hit me... now it has gone on to just your normal olde flu, so things are getting better (he he he... check out the terrific Riverside album Cannonball Adderley and Milt Jackson made under that title, btw!).
So now then, in two more posts I'll share the rest of the Prez live material, this time it's discs 11-13, discs 14-16 will follow soon, and then I'll have a little special treat for x-mas, for fans of more modern sounds (dare I say free jazz?).

Töbi Tobler - Altdorf 2007 - dime re-post
I have posted this great hammered dulcimer solo concert on dime some time ago. After I re-activated my blog, reader "archer" asked me about posting it again, so here it is, in FLAC format, three parts.
I'd be more than happy to see some interest in this again here - please, open your ears and minds and let in something totally new!
Below is the previous post from August. The links will be in the comments.

Here's one fresh off the press - yesterday's solo recital at the great Alpentöne festival in Altdorf by Töbi Tobler on Hackbrett (hammered dulcimer). Quite a nice surprise! I like this honest and simple kind of folk music - though his horizon is much broader and he incorporates some of it in his music, too. Anyway, folk music shouldn't just be conserved as is, rather it should evolve, and here's a fine example for that!

Töbi Tobler Solo
Alpentöne 2007
Altdorf (Switzerland), Schlüsselsaal
August 17, 2007
Töbi Tobler - Hackbrett & voice
1. Introduction TT (0:38)
2. Medley / Improvisation (22:09)
3. Zäuerli (9:02)
4. Heurigentanz (9:22)
5. Family Goes Shopping (3:13)
6. unknown (Schluss / Ending) (8:15)
7. [encore] (3:18)
8. Interview (by Kjell Keller) (6:30)
TT: 62:30
Sound: A- (mono)
Source: DRS 2 "Weltklasse auf DRS 2" / 2007-08-17 (live)
Lineage: FM > HD > Cool Edit Pro > FLAC (8,asb,verify)
Note: much of this music is improvised, partly it's based on traditional melodies/songs, partly on Tobler's own tunes. The encore possibly is an old Swiss folk song, but I'm not quite so familiar with that kind of music... traditional folk music (not of the commercialised crap kind marketed on German/Austrian/Swiss TV) lies at the core of this music, though, paired with Tobler's experience as a drummer with various well-known Swiss musicians, as well as his own band, "Appezeller Space Schöttl".
