Another bit of improv, here's the promised show by Veryan Weston. This concert is one of six annual TonArt concerts taking place around x-mas. As far as I know, I did never share this before, quite certainly not on dime, either, so consider this a first!

Duke & Ella

no one from the dimers who dowloaded my Anita and Tete sets seem to have found their way over here to grab the third set I have from Antibes 1966, so here's a post dedicated to this one in the open, as opposed to the "easter egg", as which it had been disguised before...

I assume all or most of this is on the big 8CD box of Duke & Ella in Antibes - too much of a good thing for me - I love Duke and own the RCA set, the Capitol and Reprise Mosaics, the recent Storyville box, the Private Collection, the Carnegie Hall Concerts, and a whole bunch of single CD reissues, too, from Columbia, Bethlehem, Blue Note, Impulse etc. - but I'm not that big an Ella fan... and 1966 was past the Duke's prime, too...

Anyway, this short set, radio-sourced, is certainly nice to have! Links in the comments, all info included with the DL.

Joey Baron & Sylvie Courvoisier - Willisau 2006 - exclusif

Here's a short but sweet thing I wanted to share. Sylvie Courvoisier is one of the brightest talents around in the Swiss jazz scene, I was lucky enough to hear her live and am a fan of her ECM release, "Abaton" (with her partner in life, Mark Feldman on violin, and the great Erik Friedlander on cello - look for his "Maldoror" if you're in for a solo cello ride! I got my copy from CDBaby, its still listed there.)

Anyway, Joey Baron was to appear in duo with John Zorn at last year's Willisau Jazzfestival, but Zorn couldn't make it, so Courvoisier stepped in for a duo I find much more fascinating than the scheduled Baron/Zorn duo (but that's just one man's opinion, of course).

I missed a longer broadcast of this concert (likely the full set was contained in that broadcast), but another radio station has recently broadcast two segments as a filler and here they are, at least!

Mal Waldron Quintet - Lugano 1984 - Exclusif

Dime is getting a bit of an overkill again lately... I've had a fast access while on vacation in Vienna and filled up most of the empty space on my computer while being there... hence my decision to put last night's recording up here, rather than on dime - I hope you approve of that decision!

It would be nice to get a bit of feedback and maybe some discussion of the music, too!

Also if anyone feels like doing a cover (faux hatOLOGY?) that would be cool!

This has the same form as my dime seeds usually have, except it's in MP3 (@ 320 kbs), not in FLAC. The recording is in mono (I have a Tivoli Audio Model One tuner which is mono but sound is very good - as you could check in my Romano-Sclavis-Texier recording shared over here) and Rete Due (RSI 2) hasn't got the most stellar radio sound, but of course the music is terrific!

Martial Solal - 1959 & 2001 - exclusif

 Another bit of music here, finally! I hope you'll enjoy! The links will be posted in the comments, I'm still uploading! This is in the lossless FLAC format (you'll need this if your burner won't allow you to burn the files directly).

Martial Solal is one of jazz' great piano players. Born in Algiers in 1927 he came to Paris in 1950 and soon started recording for Vogue (buy the discs on French Amazon - they have a sale of most "Original Vogue Masters" for 7 euro a pop - lots of great things there!). He got his big break in 1960 when Jean-Luc Godard (one of my semi-gods, by the way) asked him to write the score for his classic debut film, "A bout de souffle".
In 1963, Solal played at the Newport Jazz Festival in the US and an album was released (which was in fact a studio recreation with fake applause) on RCA. His trio in the 60s featured Guy Pedersen on bass and drummer Daniel Humair, with whom he recorded a few albums. Later he regularly played with Lee Konitz (check out "Star Eyes", their great duo album on hat records).
Later he recorded a few classic albums such as "Triangle" (with Marc Johnson & Peter Erskine) and "Ballade du 10 Mars". 
He played with Stéphane Grappelli, Michel Portal, Sydney Bechet, Lucky Thompson, Joachim Kühn, Johnny Griffin, Didier Lockwood, and many others. Also he won the Jazzpar Prize (as usual there was an album made on that occasion).
Solal continues to release albums, in solo, with his larger bands ("Dodecaband", "Newdecaband"), as well as with other musicians such as Dave Douglas and Eric Le Lann.

Here's the first musical bit exclusively shared on this blog and also in lossless FLAC-format!

The duo Les Nouveaux Monstres was formed by Daniel Bourquin (reeds) and Léon Francioli (bass), who have been working together for over 30 years now, first in the important jazz quartet BBFC, and from 1992 onwards as a duo. Last year they released a DVD titled "Amnésie Internationale 2, D'un Mur l'Autre", a montage of photographs (from the Magnum Agency) and their own music on bass/piano and saxophones/clarinets, respectively. Two days ago they were in the studio of Swiss Radio RSR 2 (Espace 2 - see links) to discuss this release and their music with Yvan Ischer, the host of the daily (Monday-Friday 22:40 to midnight) show "JazzZ". They also performed a short, improvised piece, which is what you'll find for download here:
