These mixes look amazing but i can't get them to expand. The files download but then the expander keeps giving me a format error and they will not open. Anybody have any idea what's going wrong?

ubu said...

Nothing wrong there - you need winrar to open the files (www.rarlab.com), then grab all the files, put them in the same folder, open the first file, extract, and all of it will extract in one go.

thanks for the response. I just went to that sight and download the winrar for OS X but still can't get it too work. Maybe it's not mac compatible or maybe i'm just an idiot with this kind of thing. Anyway, my computer tries to open it with Stuff it expander and it can't get it to go. the winrar also tries to open with stuff it and doesn't work. Maybe i'll try to get it to open at work if it's not blocked by the websense. Still hoping to check out your mixes. Thanks again!

Ubu-I was finally able to get the files by downloading Zipeg. So far i've only listened to the first 12 tracks but they are amazing. Thanks so much for posting. Wonderful stuff.

absolutely amazing collection of
SA jazz- i've always loved Ibrahim,
Kippie, early Masekela, but much of this material was unkown to me.
quite a treasure- thank you.

i host an NPR jazz show in California, and am thinking about devoting an entire four hour show to SA jazz. any ideas of how i can get more info, and music from contemporary SA jazz musicians. have lots of Bheki, some McCoy Mrubata, but thats about it.

jazzmd, Ogun has just released a lovely box set of their recordings by The Blue Notes, marvellous stuff!

http://www.cadillacjazz.co.uk/code/ogncat.html

Also there's this website about McGregor:
http://www.mfowler.myzen.co.uk/

This should give you some more ideas!

Fledg'ling and Cuneiform are reissuing some of the music, the former studio albums by McGregor's Brotherhood of Breath (also trio albums by McGregor, but I don't know those yet), and the later several live recordings by Brotherhood of Breath, as well as a marvellous disc by Harry Miller (there was a Miller Ogun box as well, but it's OOP)
