These sessions are fairly well-known, I think. The quartet dates with John Lewis have been released in various forms, for instance on the Italian bootleg label Jazz View.
I assume it's complete here, or at least as complete as it gets!

I'll jump for a short comment... at least a question:
Since you've started that exceptional serie on the Prez, I keep searching for the original Japan CDs you're mentionning or even the OOP vinyl boxset... but can't find anything. I think I'm even dreaming of it at night! Do you know how the originals look like? Have you seen it on vinyl?

those cd's are so helpful for jazz history teaching. i had some essential recordings of young now i feel i have enough examples of his wonderful playing :-))

i used to have a nice blog here on blogger but some vicious ppl made most of the jazz cd's deleted in rapidshare and mediafire.

there were several of these sets, as far as I know besides Pres, there was a Bird and a Lady Day one. I have (scaled down) copies of the Pres booklet, and I've seen the other boxes at a friend's, but haven't opened them or had a closer look... too depressing, as I'll never have the original anyway! It's big bulky boxes, of course LP-sized (those were LP versions - I don't know about the format of the CD versions of these boxes, but my guess would be it's identical).

Great blog, great music, great Pres with John Lewis. In his book "The Swing Era" Gunther Schuller rates John Lewis as the finest piano player for Pres. Hard to argue.
