Blues, Boogie, & Bop: The 1940s Mercury Sessions (For Europeans Only #11)

Here's the last upload of the old year, and a very special one it is! This 7CD box set has been OOP for many years. It was a limited edition of 10'000 and contains the Mercury 1940s output of musicians like Albert Ammons (including a great father & son date with Gene Ammons on tenor), Eddie "Cleanhead" Vinson, Jay McShann, Roy Byrd (Professor Longhair), Helen Humes, Buddy Rich's Big Band, Cootie Williams (including some Willis "Gator" Jackson), and others. There are six discs full of music, plus a seventh with alternates and a very rare, previously unreleased date by Mary Lou Williams (two tunes).

As usual, this comes in MP3 @ 320 kbs - don't ask for FLAC, I couldn't handle it that way. The links will be in the comments, as usual.

Now all that remains is to wish you and your beloved ones a happy new year!
And if you enjoy my blog and the music I share, why don't you now and then say so!

Here's the setlist, all other info, including full line-ups and recording locations/dates, is in the tags (I hope I didn't make too many typos, took me hours to get it done!)

another amazing post, thanks!

(amazing for more than one reason, the extracted files are just over a gig and the 5 DLs were total 370 meg, um, how are you compressing these? ;)

I'm using winrar - with old music, if you use VBR 192-320 kbs, the files often end up being at 192 for most of the time - I guess that is similar with what happens when packing the MP3s up in .rar-files - they just compress to a smaller file, as there seems to be a smaller amount of data (at least that's how I explain it to myself).
If I encode newer music, the .rar-files will end up at some 95% of the original MP3 files, too... no magic involved!
