Martial Solal - Paris 2001 (fm > flac)

Here's a great solo show by one of my absolute favourites, pianist Martial Solal.

Solal has recorded many albums, penned some most memorable film scores (Godard's "A bout de souffle" to name just one), and is still actively performing at the tender age of 81! Here's to him, for some more healthy years of great musicianship! Merci, Martial!

Some rare older Solal can be found on the amazing MPS-blog here:

And lots of his music is still readily available - I have yet to hear a bad disc (that short weird 70s disc "Locomotive" or what it's called is an album of library music, so it doesn't count... and it's not bad, really, just weird and short and lacking much meat).

Here are the DL links:

it happens that i see your post, Ubu. It's right, it's me who posted it in CIA.

Now's the Time.flac"  ....
Tous mes remerciements
Ric

Ric, let me answer in english please, otherwise it will take me ages to look up all the french words...

I can't help you with vinyl transfers, but it is my understanding that good vinyl transfers are done lossless (WAV-files), then edited (in a programme such as Cool Edit Pro or GoldWave), and only then the files are compressed to FLAC or MP3.

There's no technical section on the blog here, as I couldn't help anyone much...

But with one thing I can help: FLA-files. I've seen these, too, I don't know why they even exist, but you can indeed change the file extension from ".fla" to ".flac". To do that, you have to change the settings in the explorer so it displays all file extensions (and your "title" gets to be "title.fla") - proceed like this (I hope my own translations make sense, my computer is set in German):

open explorer
go to menu "optons" > "folder options" (the last one)
go to "view" (second tab)
then de-select "don't display extensions with known file-types"

With that done, the ".fla" extension will be displayed and you can simply add a "c" at the end and then play/burn the files.

by the way, in my blogger profile there's an email address, just in case you want to indeed discuss this in private.

and you can of course continue to write in french, my understanding is well enough but I have trouble writing myself...

it works perfectly, thanks a lot ubu !!...it was soooo simple (if only I knew). Sorry for french use, I thought you were french.
I don't need now a private contact, thank you so much anyway, considering that the problem is no more a problem.
And thanks also for the very good music I can found here, if possible I will try - in future - to cooperate with some posts.
Best regards
Ric
